The referral system blocks self-referrals at the database level via a SQL constraint. Referral rewards are capped at 20 conversions and 10,000 points per 30 days per referrer to prevent farming. The referrer must themselves have an approved submission before their referral code is valid. Referral conversion only occurs when the referred user's submission passes all 15 gates.
